is the movement of individuals with the primary purpose of forced servitude or sexual slavery.Trafficking in women is the second largest global organized crime today, generating $12 BILLION per year. The iLO estimates there are now 1.39 MILLION VICTIMS of commercial sexual servitude worldwide. OVER 25% of these victims are trafficked from southern and eastern Europe. The UN estimates that only ONE IN 100,000 Europeans involved in trafficking are ever convicted.
In some cases human trafficking victims are forced to service as many as 40 MEN IN ONE DAY. Even if recovered by police GIRLS AS YOUNG AS 13, are simply put in jail for illegal immigration. Victims who are not rescued are known to ASSIST IN TRAFFICKING NEW VICTIMS in a desperate attempt for their own freedom.
The A21 Campaign...
is strategically positioned to abolish the injustice of human trafficking and rescue its victims. While Eastern Europe is a hub for human trafficking, the area is significantly lacking in awareness of the issue and resources to fight it. With an estimated 20,000 women and girls trafficked into the greek sex industry, greece has been labelled “the centre of trafficking in Europe.” Located in Thessaloniki, greece, The A21 Campaign Crisis Care Shelter and Project Centre are strategically positioned to combat this injustice. A21 works through the local justice system and alongside law enforcement to reach out to, rescue, shelter and restore trafficking victims to healthy lives. We are currently developing a long-stay restoration program, where trafficking victims will find additional healing and assistance to be reintegrated into society. greece is a key starting point, paving the way for expansion into other trafficking hot spots in Europe.
